You know how youre really trying your best to stay healthy? You eat your vegetables. You go to the gym. You take time to relax with family and friends. Well here are a few more things to add to your to do list everyday to make living longer and staying healthier a reality.
People who reach ninety and beyond and avoid the typical diseases of the elderly:
1. Take naps. Whens the last time you were given the green light to nap? Napping is not just for old folks. People who take an afternoon snooze regularly, lower their stress hormones and have as much as a 35% lower risk of dying from heart disease.
3. Consume Pecorino cheese made from grass-fed sheep. Really? This hard Italian cheese is high in omega-3 fatty acid which helps ward off heart disease, fights joint pain, and can even help lower depression. Bring it on. (we all know what goes well with cheese, right?)
4. Get ample amounts of vitamin D from sensible sun. Concerns about skin cancer has created a nation of sunscreen slatherers before each and every foray out-of-doors. Nothing beats small amounts of sun exposure for getting enough vitamin D. A deficiency in Vitamin D has a negative impact on your immune system. Having sufficient levels of the sunshine vitamin helps prevent a host of maladies, including cardiovascular disease and even cancer. Fifteen minutes of unprotected sun exposure everyday appears to do the trick.
5. Drink water. Youve heard this one before. We all know the merits of consuming adequate amounts of the life-giving beverage; aids in digestion, helps the brain function properly, better looking skin, blah, blah, blah But did you know that drinking 5-6 glasses of water a day can reduce the risk of heart attack by up to 70%? Very best reason yet to say, make mine a water.
